Parent Teacher Conferences

Finally, we have access to Google again at work. Whew.....
Last night was our first of two parent teacher conferences for the year. Alex is continually working on her anger/patience issues. At the beginning of each year, we discuss just enough to let the teacher know and yet make their own assessment of her. And, always ask for feedback and immediate communication if something comes up. Well, this year (so far), there have been no notes home or emails from the teacher. Alex has been more positive when she comes home from school and says she has been doing well. I think her exact words were "I haven't hit, punched, or kicked anyone." Yikes, but very good. So, last night after we discussed the curriculum items, I asked for an update. Her teacher said she has been very impressed and she is doing a very good job in class. I, of course, have to ask about art, music and pe because even when she was doing ok in class the other areas were also a main concern. I am very proud to say, she is doing well in all her classes. The one thing the teacher mentioned was recess can still be a bit of a challenge (nothing like last year) but, when she comes into the class room she is able to leave it at the door and get back to work. Wow!!! I know a lot of adults who can't even do that!!!!! After our meeting, we always attend the book fair and purchase a book for her and the class. As we got back into the car, I asked how she is able to not focus on recess issues in the classroom. She said (and it will be hard to convey via a blog but picture Alex and imagine your best) I say AAAHHHHH and go back into the room. And, the best part is, she says it in her head. The facial expressions were the best because she said she still doesn those even if she is yelling only in her head. lol
